EVENING NEWS
by Selia Qynn, 8/19/91

I turned on the news today and it was still the same.
The good news was from the weatherman who said it looked like rain.
Now the news is jazzed up with suspense music,
But then that's just show biz.
Just once I'd like to hear them tell it like it really is.

We're subjecting our hope for the future to the wages of war today.
Will history repeat itself? And what will it finally say?
We are lost in a world full of vengence, and the chances we foolishly take.
And justify the violence while it's love we're professing to make.

CH- Children forgive us, Father forgive us.
For selling misfortune for thrills.
Our senses have left us to buy this injustice.
A numb heart never will heal.
We've gotten too numb to feel.

Yes, they've added suspense to the evening news, so now it's more entertaining.
And easier to take less seriously, so why am I complaining?
I should know better it doesn't get better, just more sensationalized.
But the public needs that extra edge being so desensitized.

Now the news has a brand new logo, so we can recognize
The lastest breaking trauma must be emphasized if you want to get a rise.
From subordinates of the happenings who really have no power;
Helpless to help the helplessness. Asleep in the darkest hour.

CH- Children forgive us, Father forgive us.
For selling misfortune for thrills.
Our senses have left us to buy this injustice.
A numb heart never will heal.
We've gotten too numb to feel.
