I know how close you are, Death,
But you can never touch
Anything eternal...
Souls and love and such.
Yes, some things that seem most important now,
Will fade away, when faced with you
And traded in a bargain for a day.
But you are just a doorway
To a better place, I guess.
Still in all its frailty,
I prefer my humanness.
So take me when you must.
But don't let me see you coming.
Nor send your cousin, Fear, ahead
With paralytic numbing.
And allow me yet to mock you,
As I continue living;
And do not touch my mortal part,
'Til I am finished singing.
